A new queen of rage has arrived. In the current state of hip-hop, the women are killing the game. Let’s call it how it is. We have new superstars Sexyy Redd, Ice Spice (her downfall may be coming tho) Latto, and as of recent Doechii. All of em are constantly covered by media moguls. Not to mention the current greats and the many others pushing female rappers to the top of mainstream hip-hop. There are now women rappers to cover almost every sub-genre, which is exciting to see. Molly Santana is headed top of the game, crashing through the underground.
Bktherula has the crown for Queen of the underground. She’s has been polishing her sound and cementing her spot in the trap/rage genre for some time now. But up next right now to challenge BK for that crown is Molly Santana, no question. The release of her newest EP Masonic Musik shows how much potential she really has an artist. Fifteen minutes of hypnotic colorful tracks blending pop, rage, trap, and even electroclash together to make a sound that sounds familiar but on the edge of finding something new. The song “Want” is a perfect example. The EP shows Molly further developing her own sound after trying to find a voice with her solid self-titled debut back in April.
Even tho artists like 2hollis and Nettspend are pushing boundaries for the underground with similar electroclash melodies, it is Molly that seems to do it the most tasteful and polished while keeping the gritty undertones . Molly’s aura is eclectic screaming a mix of street punk, goth and harajuku sleaze - a perfect reflection of gen-z culture. Her songwriting is more interesting than any of the new guys out right now. Although signed to Victor Victor, Opium should sign her ASAP. The shit they would cook up together would hit different. Her sound and aesthetic fits perfectly with em and she can add more pop appeal to the label without watering down the vibe. Molly and Opium teaming up would be sick to see.

Molly Santana is slowly climbing the ranks of the underground. Her instrumentals are hard hitting, raw, and melodic. But the way she floats and flows on each track is what makes her the best of the best of the right now. Molly uses just the right amount auto-tune - just enough to elevate a track. She switches up her vocal tone at the right moments and lets her cool demeanor speak loud through her verses. She’s showing she is more than just a one dimensional artist. Under her belt, she got tracks to make you feel something, but also the type of tracks to turn up any function. This year Molly is just scratching the surface, next year she’ll probably be tearing it up. Trust.
Tracks to check out: Chain Swangin, What Did I Do Today?, Want, Windows Up, Nothing Like This. Check out her album Molly Santana and definitely that whole Masonic Musik EP - it goes crazy.
